In conjunction with the exhibition Sympathetic Seeing: Esther McCoy and the Heart of American Modernist Architecture and Design, the MAK Center opened the Lovell Beach House (R.M. Schindler, 1926) in Newport Beach for public tours on October 16, 2011 as a fundraiser. Architects, writers, filmmakers, and historians from the Los Angeles area acted as guides, each giving a short talk about the house from their perspective.
