MAK Day 2001: Site and Sound

  • Schindler House 835 North Kings Road West Hollywood, CA, 90069 (map)

The third annual community day featured docent-led family tours of the Schindler House that culminated in drawing exercises on the front lawn. Children’s workshops were held in the house during the afternoon – the first covered basic properties of the science of sound, harmonics, and noise through demonstration and listening, and the second was on making instruments with common household items. A lecture given by sound curator and practitioner Brandon Labelle, entitled An Idiosyncratic History of Experimental Sound, was followed with a performance given by Steve Roden who also premiered his newly released work Schindler House.
