Director’s Dinner Hosted By MAK Center and YOLA Mezcal with Ignacio Mattos and Lykke Li

  • Schindler House 835 North Kings Road West Hollywood, CA, 90069 (map)

You are cordially invited to the first of a series of director’s dinners hosted by Yola Mezcal & The MAK Center at which Lykke Li will perform live under the jacaranda tree with food prepared by Ignacio Mattos of Estela and gifts from Sunday Goods.

THE MAK CENTER FOR ART AND ARCHITECTURE

“One of my dreams, mother, is to have someday a little joy of a bungalow on the edge of woods and mountains near a crowded city which shall be open just as some people’s hearts are open to friends of all classes and types.” Pauline realized that dream with her marriage to architect Rudolph Schindler. Together they built the 1922 Kings Road House that would come to be known as the first modernist landmark in the United States. Pauline’s radical social ideas informed its design as a live-work space for two couples and Los Angeles artistic and political avant-garde flocked to her salons for decades. The MAK Center for Art and Architecture was conceived in this spirit.

YOLA Mezcal

YOLA Mezcal is a mezcal and lifestyle brand created by Yola Jimenez (an activist and Mexican entrepreneur), Gina Correll Aglietti (chef and stylist) and Swedish singer Lykke Li (see below). It is handcrafted, distilled on their namesake farm, bottled by women, with a recipe passed down from Yola’s grandfather. In 1971, Luis Jimenez purchased a mezcal farm in San Juan Del Rio, Oaxaca. Today, they still honor the same recipe, adding by the 300-year-old method of traditional mezcal making. Yola is dedicated to promoting the economic independence of women in Oaxaca.

IGNACIO MATTOS

Ignacio Mattos is the chef and owner of Estela, Café Altro Paradiso, Flora Bar and Flora Coffee. Ignacio then opened Isa in Williamsburg, where his adventurous cooking earned the restaurant a James Beard Award nomination for Best New Restaurant in 2012. In late 2012, Ignacio opened Estela in 2013 followed by Café Altro Paradiso and Flora Bar + Flora Coffee in 2016. This past October, Ignacio released his debut cookbook, Estela, bringing the restaurants’ simple and elegant dishes to life. At Café Altro Paradiso, Estela and Flora Bar, Ignacio cooks food that is comforting and bold, reflecting his varied experiences and the cultures of New York City, the city he calls home.

LYKKE LI

On June 8th, Lykke Li released her highly anticipated fourth studio album and first for RCA Records entitled so sad so sexy. The release of the album will be celebrated with the “so sad so sexy” fall tour, presented by YOLA Mezcal, that will run throughout major cities in North America and Europe including New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, London, Paris, and more. In anticipation for her tour, Lykke Li has performed on several festivals outside of the US, including last month’s BBC’s Biggest Weekend Festival in Belfast, All Points East in London, and will be performing at Lollapalooza, and more. FADER praised her return as “one of the most anticipated pop releases this year” and Rolling Stone called “hard rain” a “mesmerizing ballad” while Pitchfork stated the song had “inventive sonic choices around every corner.” Early reviews for the album claim so sad so sexy is “a superb reinvention of Lykke Li” (Consequence of Sound).
