During visits to Los Angeles, Sandra Peters became preoccupied with the work of architect R.M. Schindler: from installations that resemble portraits of some individual Schindler houses to a cube structure (Interface No. 1) responding to the bilateral-diagonal roof configuration of the How House (1925), Schindler’s work became the point of departure for the artist’s multifaceted confrontation with the form of the cube that is documented within this publication.
Peters spoke about the genesis and production of the process that produced the work seen in PER/TRANS, joined by L.A.-based curator Michael Ned Holte in a discussion about the relationship between exhibition and book formats.

Peters has widely presented her work in Europe, the U.S. and the United Arab Emirates including Pandora’s Box at the NYUAD Project Space in Abu Dhabi (2016); Bilateral, Diagonal, Cubical at the Gallery Aanant & Zoo, Berlin (2012) and participated in the group exhibition Erschaute Bauten. Architektur im Spiegel zeitgenössischer Kunstfotografie at the MAK-Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst/Gegenwartskunst (2011). Peters was visiting professor at Art Center (1999-00) and at CalArts in 2011 and 2012. She has taught at New York University Abu Dhabi since 2014.
Michael Ned Holte
Michael Ned Holte is a writer, independent curator, and educator based in Los Angeles. He has organized numerous exhibitions, including Routine Pleasures at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House in Los Angeles; TL; DR at Artspace in Auckland, New Zealand; and with Connie Butler, the 2014 edition of Made in LA at the Hammer Museum. Holte has contributed to numerous publications and recently received a Creative Capital / Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant for a forthcoming book on art and microinstitutions in Los Angeles. He has been a member of the faculty at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles since 2009 and served as co-director of the school’s Program in Art from 2014-18.
