Hans Schabus
From 1991 to 1996, Hans Schabus studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Since 2014, he has been a professor of Sculpture and Spatial Design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Schabus’ works are closely connected to spatial thinking and experience; his sculptures and interventions often refer directly to his mental and physical surroundings, particularly his studio and the materials processed there. The place where art is created is examined for its potential analogy to life. His works can be interpreted as meditations on the creative act, its aspirations, and its distinction from everyday activity. His film works, which address themes of travel, speed, and non-goal-oriented movement, highlight the importance of interdisciplinary reflection in art.
