Christian Teckert

Christian Teckert (1967) lives in Vienna and works on architectural, curatorial, and artistic projects. He lectures and writes in the fields of architecture, urbanism, and spatial theory.
Since 2006, he has been Professor for Spatial Strategies at the Muthesius University of Arts in Kiel, Germany. Since 2005, he has also been a regular lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. He has served as a board member of the ÖGFA (Austrian Society for Architecture) and the Secession Vienna. He has received several awards, including the Dietrich Ecker Award from the House of Architecture (HdA) in Graz for architectural theory, the Bauwelt Award (with as-if), and an award from the German Architecture Prize. He was also an artist-in-residence in Fujino, Japan, and at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles, USA.
In 1999, he co-founded the Office for Cognitive Urbanism (Büro für kognitiven Urbanismus) together with Andreas Spiegl. They curated exhibitions such as Studiocity (Vienna, Wolfsburg, 1999), Screenclimbing (Hamburg, 2000), and ManifeSTATION (Rovereto, Manifesta 7, 2008). They also edited publications including Prospekt (2003) and Last Minute (2006), both published by Verlag Walther König, Cologne.
In 2001, he co-founded the architecture office as-if berlinwien with Paul Grundei and Stephanie Kaindl. One of their major projects was the GFZK2, an exhibition building for the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst in Leipzig. This project was extensively documented in Negotiating Spaces (2010), edited together with Barbara Steiner and published by Jovis, Berlin.
In 2013, he curated the exhibition Eastern Promises at the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna, together with artist Andreas Fogarasi. The exhibition was accompanied by a publication of the same title, published by Hatje Cantz.
