Getty Marrow Archives and Engagement Internship

The Getty Marrow Archives and Engagement Internship with the MAK Center for Art and Architecture provides an opportunity to support and learn from a contemporary, experimental, multi-disciplinary center for art and architecture headquartered in three architectural landmarks by Austrian-American architect Rudolph M. Schindler.

The intern will contribute to the MAK Digital Archive Project, assisting with the preservation and digitization of the center’s 31-year archive, which captures a diverse range of art and architecture programming. In addition, the intern will support educational engagement across all three sites, gaining hands-on experience in archival work, program development, and public engagement. Working with the Director, Education and Engagement Manager, and Communications and Archive Coordinator, the intern will gain insights into the digital preservation of cultural heritage and the design of community-focused programming within a Los Angeles arts nonprofit with deep roots in the Los Angeles community.

Responsibilities:

The Archives and Engagement Intern will support the MAK Center Digital Archive Project by updating, cataloging, and organizing archival materials that capture the organization’s 31-year legacy in art and architecture. Their responsibilities include updating the new digital archive system, entering metadata, and digitizing institutional records and program materials. In addition to archival duties, the intern will assist with engagement and visitor service activities across all three MAK Center sites, supporting public tours and events and documenting activities for the archive.

Significant Project Ownership:

The intern will take ownership of updating and enhancing the MAK Center’s digital archive with the organization's history of residency programs, exhibitions, and public programs. As an outcome of their internship, they will make selections from the archive to publicly share stories from the collection.

Special Training and Transferable Skills:

Under the guidance of an archival consultant, the intern will gain skills in database management, metadata entry, digital organization, and archival best practices, which are highly transferable to future roles in archives, libraries, and museums.
