RESIDENCY AND EXHIBITIONS ASSOCIATE

This full-time, non-exempt role will begin as a temporary position for up to five months, with the potential for longer-term employment based on mutual fit and organizational needs.

Anticipated start date: September 2, 2025

Position Summary
The Residency and Exhibitions Associate supports the MAK Center’s exhibitions and international residency program, ensuring smooth operations, artist support, and timely coordination across MAK Center sites. The role manages exhibition logistics, installation, and documentation, and serves as the primary liaison for the residency program at the Mackey Apartments. This is a highly collaborative role focused on production, artist care, and operational coordination in support of the Center’s programmatic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Exhibition Management

  • Support the Director in implementing exhibition timelines, budgets, and production plans across MAK Center sites

  • Coordinate with artists, curators, lenders, and vendors

  • Oversee installation and deinstallation logistics, including registrarial tasks (loan agreements, condition reports, shipping, insurance)

  • Manage editing and production of didactic materials and printed matter

  • Organize and maintain exhibition documentation and archive

Residency Program Coordination

  • Administer the international Artists and Architects-in-Residence program

  • Manage artist onboarding, scheduling, communications, and final presentations

  • Coordinate residency-related exhibitions in collaboration with residents and guest artists

  • Liaise with facilities team to ensure maintenance of the Mackey Apartments and Garage Top Gallery

  • Track and archive resident activities and documentation

Fitzpatrick-Leland House Archive and Study Center Support

  • Assist in organizing and preserving residency-related records and exhibition materials

  • Contribute to activation of archival materials through research and documentation

  • Collaborate with staff, researchers, and contractors on archive development

Institutional and Program Support

  • Provide production support for public programs across MAK Center sites

  • Participate in cross-departmental and strategic planning meetings

  • Contribute to grant reporting, fundraising events, and donor engagement events in coordination with the Director and Development team

  • Assist with intern coordination and visitor services, as needed


Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in exhibitions logistics, residency administration, or arts program management

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Familiarity with registrarial procedures and working with artists

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently, with flexibility and collaborative spirit

  • Knowledge of contemporary art, design, and architecture a plus

The position is a full-time non-exempt role, with occasional evening and weekend commitments. Pay commensurate with experience. This is an on-site position reporting to the Director.

CONSULTANT ARCHIVIST

This is a part-time, contract role with an estimated duration of 1-3 months. We are aiming to start this engagement in July 2025 and will be conducting interviews on a rolling basis until the position is filled.


ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The MAK Center for Art and Architecture operates from three sites designed by R.M. Schindler and hosts year-round exhibitions, residencies, and public programs at the intersection of art, architecture, and urbanism. As we prepare to launch a new Study Center and digital archive housed at the Fitzpatrick-Leland House, we are seeking a consultant archivist to support this foundational stage.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Consultant Archivist will support the MAK Center in assessing its archival collections and advising on the development of a scalable digital infrastructure. This role will collaborate closely with internal staff and an external digital design team to ensure that the archive is developed with long-term usability, accessibility, and institutional alignment in mind.

Scope of Work

  • Conduct a collections assessment of the MAK Center’s physical and digital holdings related to exhibitions, residencies, and programs from the past 30 years

  • Review and document existing archival materials, identify preservation risks, and recommend priorities for digitization

  • Participate in kickoff meetings with MAK Center staff and the digital design team to help define metadata standards, user interface priorities, and content hierarchy

  • Advise on best practices for collection management, digitization workflows, and scalable digital archive infrastructure

  • Draft or advise on an institutional collections policy to support the long-term care and accessibility of the archive

  • Create a detailed work plan for a Processing Archivist and provide initial supervision to ensure alignment with institutional goals and archival best practices

  • Oversee and support the Processing Archivist by helping define workflows, reviewing progress, and ensuring best practices are followed

Qualifications

  • MLIS, MA in Archival Studies, or equivalent experience in archival work

  • Demonstrated experience with archival assessment, policy development, and digital preservation

  • Familiarity with digital asset management systems and metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, EAD, etc.)

  • Knowledge of contemporary art, architecture, or design collections strongly preferred

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to translate archival needs to design/tech teams

This is an on-site position reporting to the Director. Pay commensurate with experience.
