Johannes Schweiger
Johannes Schweiger (*1973) is an artist and designer based in Vienna, Austria. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Until 2011, he was a co-operator of the design label ____fabrics interseason, which presented its collections twice a year during Paris Fashion Week from 2002 onwards. The brand collaborated with international press and sales agencies across the EU, the US, and Asia. Schweiger was also co-responsible for curating and conceptualizing exhibitions at a range of institutions, including Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, the 3rd Berlin Biennale, Manifesta7 (Alto Adige), the Institute of Visual Arts in Milwaukee, Kunstverein München, Kölnischer Kunstverein in Cologne, and Grazer Kunstverein.
Since 2012, Schweiger has focused on solo projects, exhibiting his work at institutions such as pro choice, Vienna; Museum Moderner Kunst (mumok), Vienna; Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach; Museum der Moderne (MdM), Salzburg; KM–Halle für Kunst & Medien, Graz; Austrian Cultural Forum, London; Galerie 5020, Salzburg; school, Vienna; nousmoules, Vienna; Kunsthaus Graz; GfZK (Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst), Leipzig; and Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover.
In 2016, he co-founded WIENER TIMES ("The reference in contemporary bolstering").
Schweiger has lectured at the University of Art and Design Linz (Fashion & Textile/Art/Design) since 2009, and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Fashions & Styles). He also held a position as research assistant and lecturer in Art & Material Culture / Anthropology of Textiles at the University of Technology, Dortmund.
Since 2022, he has been Head of the Department of Textile.Art.Design at the University of Art and Design Linz.
