Kamen Stoyanov



 
 

Kamen Stoyanov is an artist based in Vienna and Sofia, working across film, video, performance, installation, painting, and drawing. He studied painting at the National Art Academy in Sofia, visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, and film directing at New Bulgarian University. In 2024, he premiered his first feature film, "Zvesda," which debuted at the 29th Sofia International Film Festival in March 2025. His short experimental film, "Up and Through," won 'Best Experimental Film' at the Dumbo Film Festival in 2020 and was nominated for Best Experimental Film at the Long Story Shorts Festival in Bucharest.

Kamen has received numerous awards, including the Austrian State Scholarship for Media Art (2022), a BKA–Austrian Federal Ministry scholarship for Mexico City (2021), and the Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna (2005). Other notable distinctions include artist residencies in Bulgaria and Los Angeles, the Sovereign European Art Prize (2011), the Otto Mauer Prize (2011), and the Kunstpreis Europas Zukunft from Galerie für Zeitgenoessische Kunst Leipzig (2008).

His work has been exhibited widely, including at Cube Gallery Sofia, ICA Sofia, MUMOK Vienna, and the Sydney Biennale. He participated in major festivals and biennials such as Transmediale Berlin, WRO Biennale Poland, and Aichi Triennale Japan, with exhibitions spanning Europe, Asia, and North America.
